Chinese 22nd seed Jie Zheng cruised into the fourth round of Australian Open 2009 on Saturday, defeating Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine in straight sets, 6-2 6-2.

Zheng broke Bondarenko in the opening game, and held off the persistent Ukrainian in the fourth game, winning her serve after five deuces and two break points.

The rest of the set was a breeze for the Chinese, who broke Bondarenko once more and served for the set at 5-2, where she dropped just one point.

Bondarenko was firmly on the back foot in the second set, with Zheng breaking her in her first three service games.

A late surge which saw Bondarenko take a service game off the Chinese was a case of too little too late, as Zheng again served for the set at 5-2, closing out the match in an hour and nine minutes.

Zheng will play the winner of Saturday’s match between eighth seed Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova and the second Bondarenko sister to make the main draw, 31st seed Alona.
