Budding filmmakers are invited to submit a film with a tennis theme as part of the inaugural Tennis Film Festival – Changing Ends – to be screened during Australian Open 2010.
Films are to be no longer than 90 seconds – the amount of time players receive during a change of ends.
The best entries will be screened periodically during Australian Open 2010 on giant screens in Garden Square and on Grand Slam Oval, as well as on the dedicated tennis film festival website www.changingends.com.au.
They will also be shown on the official Australian Open website, www.australianopen.com, which attracted a record 8.6 million unique visitors in 2009.
The winning entry will receive an AUD$5000 cash prize with a second cash prize of AUD$2500 for the runner-up.
Those with a passion for making films will have the chance to have their work viewed on site at Melbourne Park by the more than 600,000 fans expected to attend the event in January, and who have come to enjoy the off-court festivities at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year.
“The Tennis Film Festival adds another dimension to the entertainment offering at the Australian Open,” Tennis Australia’s CEO Steve Wood said. “It also gives members of the film industry as well as tennis enthusiasts an opportunity to tell a story about tennis in 90 seconds. That’s quite a challenge and one everyone will enjoy watching. “
Shortlisted films will be shown throughout the tournament and the winner will be announced before the men’s semifinal on 28 January 2010.
