The popular Australian Open Ground Pass will have even more value and remain at $29, organisers announced today.

Plans for a widely expanded entertainment line up (details to be announced later in the year) are expected to add to the appeal of the famous Ground Pass as well as the After-5pm Ground Pass which will remain at $20

Other initiatives for Australian Open 2009 ticketing include:

- priority ticketing for Australian Open membership
- an improved range of series package options
- the Five-Day Ground Pass remaining at $99
- a Saturday night women’s singles final
- two night sessions at Hisense Arena.

"Once again this year you can watch the best tennis in the world for less than $20 a day, as well as enjoying all the activity within the precinct," Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood explained.

He added that the extra night activity at Hisense Arena and the night women’s singles final were a result of public demand.

"Our research shows Australian Open fans want more night action. Now at Hisense Arena we can offer a night of world class tennis for less than $70 (Friday night $64.90, Saturday night $69.90) which we believe is tremendous value for money."

The rising cost of staging the Open, including a significant increase in prizemoney (details to be announced later this year), has led to an increase in some of the ticket prices.

"This is purely a commercial decision, based upon greater costs. The Australian Open funds the development of our tennis players and this is not the time to be cutting back on our spending (in real terms) in our sport," Mr Wood explained.

Australian Open revenue also funds a Tennis Australia rebate program to improve the quality and number of tennis courts across the nation as well as numerous other talent identification, tennis development and tennis promotional programs.

"We want as many people playing this good, healthy sport as possible. We also want to find and nurture our future champions, but wherever they are in Australia they need to be able to access quality courts and relevant court surfaces," Mr Wood said.

Series tickets will be on sale from October 9-19 and single session tickets are on sale from October 20.

Australian Open 2009, presented by Kia Motors in association with Garnier and GE Money, will take place at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, from January 19 to February 1, 2009.
