Share

The upset

David Nalbandian. The No.10 seed was ousted in straight sets by 22nd seed Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Big win

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga d Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-7(5) 7-6(6) 6-3. Tsonga just keeps on winning, this time he knocked out fellow Frenchman and friend Richard Gasquet. Next up Tsonga meets the No.14 seed Mikhail Youzhny who despatched countryman Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets.

The stat

89%. The percentage of points Roger Federer won off his first serve. While he may not serve as fast as Andy Roddick or serve as many aces as Ivo Karlovic (1318 aces last year to Federer’s 597), winning 89% of points off your first serve is not a bad effort, especially over five sets.

Wish you were there

Lleyton Hewitt d Marcos Baghdatis 4-6 7-5 7-5 6-7(4) 6-3 in four hours and 45 minutes. Commentators will be talking about this one for years.

Need to know

Lleyton Hewitt and Novak Djokovic have played each other twice and have both won once.

Be there

Lleyton Hewitt v Novak Djokovic. Will this be another five-set classic?

If only …

The Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis match didn’t finish at 4.45 am – this was prime-time viewing.

What did you say?

“I only sing in the shower where no one hears me.” Maria Sharapova discusses her shower routine.

It’ll be a long drive home for …

David Nalbandian. The No.10 seed went down without a whimper or an excuse. In his post match press conference all he could offer in way of explanation for his straight sets exit was: “He played better than me. That’s it. No big deal”.
