American qualifier Ashley Harkleroad has defeated Romanian qualifier Edina Gallovits to book her spot in the semis at the Moorilla Hobart International.

In windy conditions, Harkleroad triumphed in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in 92 minutes. It’s the sixth game straight that Harkleroad has won in Hobart, including three wins in qualifying matches.

Wearing a gold chain around her neck with the word ‘perfect’ in gold letters, Harkleroad showed that she has some solid groundstrokes in her repertoire, but her game today was by no means perfect.

Harkleroad’s serve was broken by Gallovits twice in the difficult conditions. But Harkleroad did enough to get past the No.84 ranked Romanian.

“I come to the tournaments every time to try and win. I think all these girls do. I’m happy with my results and want to keep it going,” said Harkleroad.

The American No.66 will play the winner of today’s all-Russian quarterfinal between Elena Vesnina and the No.2 seed Vera Zvonareva.

In other quarterfinal action, Italy's Flavia Pennetta defeated Sania Mirza in three sets, while Russian Vera Zvonareva was too good for compatriot Elena Vesnina, winning 6-3 6-3.
